Some Very Special Glasses

Mr. Savax: We're over for today. You did well.

Justin: I'll put the balls away.

It only takes him 5 seconds.

Dorothy: You amaze me every time you do that.

Nicolas: I'm having a shower, then I'm going downtown.
Anyone want to come with me?

Jennifer: Yes, me!

Alex: I have a few things to do. I'll meet you later.

Nicolas: See you at Valentino's.

Dita: Yummy, he does the best ice cream in town!

Justin: Tut tut tut. Aren't you on a diet?

Dita: Oh you...

Jennifer: Don't you wanna come with us?

Dorothy: I've got some shopping to do.

Dita: I'm going to see Clark Rondi's latest movie. He's so handsome!

Nicolas: What about you?

Justin: I'm gonna write to my parents.

Nicolas: Okay.

Nicolas and Jennifer walk down the city streets,
go into Valentino's and order their ice cream.

Jennifer: Dita's right! This ice cream is divine.

Nicolas: If there's a good place to eat, she knows about it, you know!

Jennifer: If only she could hear you.

Nicolas: What do you think of the video of the TATJ team?

Jennifer: They play well but we can beat them.

Nicolas: You have an idea at the back of your mind, don't you?

Jennifer: Alright! I think that my invisibility will upset them.

Nicolas: That's an understatement! It even gets to me sometimes.

At the table behind them, a girl is listening.
Nicolas sees Alex coming. He comes in, trips over a bag
and catches himself on the girl's table.

Alex: I'm so sorry.

The girl: That's ok.

Nicolas: You certainly know how to attract attention, don't you?

Alex: Why? Haven't YOU ever tripped over anything?

He sticks his tongue out at him.

Jennifer: Leave that and get an ice cream. They are super yummy.

Alex: I'll have a kiss first.

They kiss.
The waitress arrives.

Alex: I'll have your "Fruits of Saturn" specialty with
lemon, melon and lychees.

The waitress has eyes for no-one but Alex: You have good taste, Sir.

Jennifer eyes flashing: Hey, he's with me!

The waitress shrugs and goes away.

Nicolas: So what's new?

Alex: You had a shower.

Nicolas: Idiot!

Alex: I've got a scoop! Guess who I saw at the movies with Dita?

Jennifer: Bet ya, it's a boy isn't it?

Alex nods. The waitress brings his ice cream.

Nicolas: Do we know him?

Alex: Very well, in fact!

Jennifer: Come on, tell us who it is!

Alex: Justin.

Nicolas: What?

Jennifer: Dita and Justin!

Nicolas: I don't believe it!

Alex: Neither did I, when I saw them!

Jennifer: Those two have been keeping things from us!

Nicolas: Why don't we go and wait for them outside the theatre.

Jennifer: Good idea.

Jennifer and Nicolas get up.

Alex: Hey, let me finish my ice cream.

Jennifer: Get a move on!

She grabs him by the arm. He gobbles his ice cream down.

Alex: I should have waited and told you later.

The girl follows them discreetly. The crowd comes out of the theatre.

Alex: And why don't you become invisible and give them an even bigger surprise?

Jennifer: Excellent idea!

The girl still in the background: Perfect!

She takes a pair of glasses out of her bag and puts them on.

Nicolas: Here they come.

She goes invisible.

Jennifer: Dear Mom and Dad...

Justin: Who said that?

Dita: Err...

Nicolas teleports in.

Nicolas: Hands up, you're surrounded!

Justin: Ah, there you are.

Jennifer becomes visible. He goes bright red.

Alex: How was the film?

The girl puts the glasses back in her bag and
moves away when, suddenly, a runaway thief grabs her bag.

The girl: Stop thief ! He stole my bag.

Before our friends can react, a sonic gust strikes the thief
who drops the bag and runs away. Dorothy starts picking up the
contents of the bag.

Dorothy: I hope everything's intact.

The others come over. Alex picks up the glasses.

The girl: Phew. The glasses aren't broken!

Alex: Wow! Your glasses are so cool! Can I try them on?

The girl: Certainly not!

She grabs them out of his hands.

Justin: But what's this crazy idea about wearing glasses?

Nicolas: That's true, we are in the year 3000.
Sight problems disappeared for good in the year 2131.

Alex: It's smart, it's trendy, it's now.

Justin shaking his head: Pah.

The girl leaves.

Dita: Don't bother with a thank you.

Dorothy: I can't leave you kids in town for five minutes on your own.

Alex: Sorry, Mom.

They burst out laughing.
Further along the girl gives a phone call.

The girl: They work just fine!

It is the day of the game.
Mr Savax gives them his last instructions.

Mr. Savax: Keep on eye on Pedro's jumps.

Dorothy: Ouch!

Mr. Savax: What's wrong?

Dorothy: I don't know. I have an odd buzz in my ear!

Justin: Your sonic power makes you more sensitive to noise.

Alex: Perhaps it's a radio.

Dorothy: But this is the first time it's happened to me.

Jennifer: It's probably only temporary.

Dita: Pedro's got the same power as me.
Let's just see which of the two of us makes top jump champion.

Team TATJ:
Pedro Vela: Jump Bartholomew Schneider: Agility
Svetlana Orr: Stick Suzanne Mcdonough: Wind
François Franck: Strength Charles Snyder: Laser

The game is relatively well-balanced.
Dita does jump after jump to prove she's the best.

Alex: Jenny, this is it.

Jennifer uses her invisibility. It works.
Team 18 is ahead. Mr Savax asks for time out.

Mr. Savax: That's the way to do it. Play your balls onto Bartholomew. He isn't playing his best today.

Dita: Did you see how great my jumps are?

Mr. Savax: That's true, but you have to use your jumps to play dummies and let
Alex, Nico and Jennifer spike. Justin and Dorothy, your turn to attack will come,
but for the moment keep on playing defensive, it's excellent.

Justin to Dita: Did you hear that ? My defence is excellent!
He didn't say that about your super jumps.

Dita: Shush.

Alex: And then they go and slip off, the two of them,
to the movies without telling us.

Mr. Savax with an ironic smile : Well, well ,now, sneaking off to the movies.
Off you go now onto the court!

The game starts up again.

Jennifer: I'm going to give the game all I've got with my Invisibility.

But the ball spiked by Jennifer is stopped clean by Bartholomew.

Dorothy: Ouch!

Justin: Are you OK?

Dorothy: Same noise as before.

Jennifer: Nico, I'm going to try something else.

Invisible, she positions herself at the center.
Bartholomew discreetly waves Suzy into the center. Alex plays a dummy.
Jennifer smashes but her ball is stopped.

So are the next shots (wind, stick, laser) always on
Bartholomew's advice. A new time out is requested.

Mr. Savax: It's clear that Bartholomew is guessing each one of Jennifer's movements.

Nicolas: That's not possible.

Mr. Savax: Then how do you explain this?

He points to the scoreboard.

Dorothy: I can't hear that noise any more.

Dita: Well try the invisible tactic again later. We have to catch up on our score now.

Dita, Nicolas and Alex take over and score a few points.
Dita plays a dummy and lets invisible Jennifer spike. It is stopped clean!
Mr Savax asks for a new time out.

Mr. Savax: It's obvious. They can see you.

Jennifer: But how can they do that?

Mr. Savax : There's no point going invisible again. That's what they're expecting.

The game starts up again and team 18 has serious
problems keeping up. Dorothy's spike is stopped.

Dorothy: Dash! We're playing five without your Invisibility.

Dita: We know it's not your fault.

Jennifer: I'm sorry. I'm going to try again anyway. Maybe it was just luck.

She becomes invisible. The noise starts again and Bartholomew looks quickly to his right.
Jennifer's ball has been stopped. Bartholomew passes to Svetlana who smashes it.
Dorothy also looks to her right and lets the ball hit the ground.

Dorothy to herself: I only get the noise when Jennifer is invisible.

She again catches Bartholomew giving a furtive glance towards the right.

Dorothy: But that's the girl with the purse!

Bartholomew moves to the left and stands in front of the Invisible girl.

Dorothy: Nicolas, ask Jennifer to change places.
I have to go and check something.

Nicolas: Change place, tactic # 7.

Jennifer: Okay.

Dorothy looks at the girl. She whispers something.
The noise is there. Bartholomew adjusts his position to Jennifer's who is still invisible.

Dorothy: Yes, of course ! A micro chip in his ear.
That explains her being off- balance. Time out.

Alex: What?

Nicolas: We've just had one!

Dorothy: I found out where the noise was coming from. Bartholomew communicates
with that girl, the blonde on the third row from the left.

Dita: The girl from the ice cream shop.

Alex: Her glasses are too classy.

Nicolas raises his eyes skyward.

Dorothy: He's got a micro chip.

Mr. Savax: And you can pick up a microchip signal even in this crowd?

Dorothy: Yes!

Mr. Savax: Your power has apparently even more surprises in store for us.

Jennifer: Of course, but that doesn't solve my problem.
How can they see me?

Nicolas: It's the glasses!

Mr. Savax: Yes that's obvious! She can see you thanks to the glasses!
The glasses are infrared. Even when you are invisible, your body still produces heat.

Dita: And that gives your position away to Bartholomew!

Alex: We have to tell the referee about this and prove it.

Nicolas: I'll deal with this.

Justin goes and explains the situation to the referee.
In the meantime, Nick teleports into the audience next to the girl.
He snatches her glasses off.

The girl: Have you gone crazy?

He teleports onto the court.

Nicolas: Do something unusual when you are invisible.

Jennifer: Okay.

Jennifer goes invisible and strikes the pose of the
Statue of Liberty. Nicolas puts the glasses on.

Nicolas very loudly : I can see you perfectly, you're imitating
the Statue of Liberty, one hand open behind your head and
the other arm in the air with your hand in a fist to symbolize the torch.

She becomes visible. The public sees that Nicolas is telling the truth.

Spectator: This is scandalous!

Public: They cheated.

Audience: He can see her despite her Invisibility.

Nicolas: See for yourself, Mister Referee, sir.

Dorothy: This girl was giving Jennifer's position by radio.

Bartholomew: And how was she supposed to do that from where she was sitting up in the rows?
You have no proof!

Dorothy: Really?

She gives an unusual cry.

Bartholomew: Ooouch!

He puts his hand over his ear.

Dorothy: And here's undeniable proof.

Dorothy grabs his arm and puts her hand next to his ear.
A micro chip drops out and falls into Dorothy's hand.
It's burning, a little light smoke is rising up from it. Bartholomew runs off.

Jennifer: Alex, he's running away.

Referee: Stop him!

Nicolas: He won't go very far.

Bartholomew runs to the exit but Justin is already at the gate.

Justin: Dumb little joker. I'm the Super Speed runner,
you don't really think you're gonna pull one over on me, do ya?

Bartholomew heads to another door. Dita jumps in front of him.
He turns back and finds himself facing Alex.
He moves to the right and crashes into something.
He collapses. Jenny goes visible again.

Jennifer: Are you leaving already, my little pet?

The crowd boo and whistle. In the audience the girl takes advantage of this uproar
to try to slip away unnoticed. Dorothy sees her and stops her with a sonic gust.

Dorothy: I can't stand people who don't say thank you, got me?

Dita: Well spoken!

Referee: You are going before the commission.
What you have done is very serious. The Wise will be informed of this.

Mr Savax: I hope the Wise won't be too hard on him and the rest of his team.

Alex: We would never have found out without that problem you had with your ears.

Dita: And what do we do with the glasses?

Mister Savax crushes them underfoot.

Alex: Oh no, they were really cool frames and they would have looked real nice on me.
Don't you think I look good in glasses, Nico?

Nicolas laughing : Hey Jenny, did you know you were dating a fashion victim?

But Jennifer couldn't hear him.

Dorothy: Hey, look at her now!

Jennifer goes visible then invisible saluting the public as she does so...
The audience, delighted, clap their hands.

Dita: She's the one and only!

Bursts of laughter.
