Holiday Time for Team 18
Justin: Ready to go?
Dita: I sure am!
Justin: We're off!
He starts running over the water, towing Dita who is taking
the opportunity to do some waterskiing.
Dita: This is BRIIIIIILLANT!
Nicolas looks on in amusement.
Dorothy: And don't come back and splash us!
Nicolas: They can't hear you.
Jenny and Alex are wading into the water. They wave at Dorothy and Nicolas
who are still on the beach. Dorothy watches Alex walk away from them.
He is holding Jenny's hand.
Dorothy: What a beautiful body he's got!
Nicolas: Dorothy, he can hear you!
Dorothy: Oh, come off it! As if you weren't having a good look at Jenny!
Jenny and Alex have waded a good way out.
Jennifer: Aren't you coming in for a swim?
Alex: The water's just great.
Nicolas: Later, maybe.
Dorothy: We'll catch up with you later.
Jennifer: Have it your way!
Alex: Well then, lovely mermaid, do you live with the herring?
Jennifer: Why don't you just kiss me, instead of talking rubbish?
They kiss. Dorothy looks away.
Nicolas: Still a bit in love with Alex?
Dorothy: Like you with Jennifer...
Nicolas: Ouch. Actually, I don't any more. I think of her as a sister now.
Dorothy: Yes, but you're not single any more.
Nicolas: Oh yeah? So where's my girlfriend?
Dorothy laughing: I can't make up my mind whether it's Eve Jefferson, Huong Lan,
Colette Bois, Morgane Agneli, Nausicaa Harlock, Rahifa Benichou, Johanne Dupuis,
Achika Belkacem or Ai Van.
Nicolas: That's some list!
Dorothy: Nico, why are you always changing girlfriends?
Nicolas: I don't do it on purpose. I just haven't found the right girl yet.
Dorothy: You get the pick of the party, and I'm having a hard time all on my own.
Nicolas: Actually, my father was just like me, and then he met my mother at High School,
and they became the couple you know today.
Dorothy: And do you want to repeat the pattern?
Nicolas: I was in love with each and every one of the girls I went out with, but...
Dorothy: Like me, somewhere in your heart you're still single.
Dita skis past them, courtesy of the Super Runner.
Dita: I just LOOOOOVE holidays!
Dorothy: Not so close, I haven't got my swimsuit on.
Nicolas: Yeah, here's to holidays! Remember you didn't feel like coming at the beginning?
Dorothy: You know, I've been wanting to have a talk with you for a long time now.
We're in the same class and the same team and we spend all our free time together.
I feel sometimes I've got no room to breathe.
Nicolas: No room to breathe?
Dorothy: All of us are always together. And then there's...
Nicolas: Jenny and Alex.
Dorothy: Dita and Justin.
They burst out laughing.
Nicolas: They'd never admit it, but you're absolutely right!
Dorothy: I think I need to take a break.
Nicolas: So you think that if you're always with us,
you won't get a chance to meet other boys?
Dorothy: Well, the only free guy left is you, and you have a girlfriend
for every day of the month.
Nicolas: Every day of the month? Aren't you overdoing it a bit?
Dorothy: I suppose I am, a bit. Oh Nico, why do I have to be in love with a boy
who isn't free, and why aren't you my type either?
Nicolas: Sorry, but I can't answer either of those questions. You know, I wonder sometimes,
too, what happens to regrets and disappointment in love and broken hearts.
I've had my share, too, and it's not over yet, unfortunately, not until I find the right girl.
Dorothy: I know what happens to them. They are recycled and then transformed into
beautiful things that make us feel good inside.
Nicolas: Thank you.
He gives her a peck on the cheek.
Dorothy: I feel better now we've talked.
Nicolas: Is the sun peeking out through the rain?
Dorothy: I think I'll even use it to my advantage and sunbathe!
Nicolas: I'm going in for a swim.
Justin and Dita are closing in. He zigzags and splashes them.
The Sonic Girl and the Teleport Boy are soaking wet.
Juju and Didi are falling about laughing.
Dorothy: I told you not to splash us!
Dita: Don't be mad. It was so funny!
Justin: Stop us if you can.
Nicolas: Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
Dorothy: Yes, I am!
She launches a sonic blast on the water which hits Dita and Justin who fall in.
Alex and Jennifer arrive.
Jennifer: Splendid!
Alex: Well done!
Everyone laughs. Redouane joins them.
Redouane: Did I miss something?
Alex: We'll tell you later.
Nicolas: It's so cool to have you with us.
Redouane: The doctor's still doing tests, but a few days' holiday...
Jennifer: Never hurt anyone!
Dita and Justin arrive.
Dita: I've got an extra swimsuit, if you like.
Dorothy: Don't worry about it.
Justin: Oh Ho! You're going to take your clothes off!
Dorothy thumps him on the head.
Justin: Ouch!
Dorothy: Serves you right. Watch this.
She takes her tee shirt by the neck, pulls it up to her mouth and
launches her shout on the inside of the tee shirt. The vibrations shake out
her clothes and expel all the water.
Redouane: Fantastic.
Dita: Dorothy Nandaya, the human spin-dryer!
Justin: You've just taken the words out of my mouth.
A voice: You could always get a new career in Household Appliances.
Alex: Brian and team.
Redouane: Surprise, surprise!
Sophie: They're not very fussy about who they take in here.
Garmia: There's like a bad smell around here. Let's go.
Jutta: Luckily they won't be allowed into the club.
Alberto: We'll have the Wave Maker 2000 all to ourselves.
Nicolas: I thought we could maybe have struck a truce.
Justin: Nico, get real! Let them go their own way, and we'll go ours.
Alex: As for your Wave Maker 2000, we don't need it, we've got Justin and Dorothy
for that so just go ahead and surf on the wave of our indifference.
Jennifer: It'll be like getting extra holidays.
Brian: Yeah, that's the idea. Keep your own company.
They leave.
Brian: Count on me to spoil their holiday.
Dita: What's this Wave Maker 2000 they're talking about?
Redouane: It's a great attraction. First you surf on one wave and then you go under another wave.
Alex: But don't you drown?
Redouane: Of course not. There's a contraption under your board that forms a protective bubble.
Jennifer: And so you see the wave crashing onto you and then you're underneath it.
Redouane: The sensations you get are out of this world. It's awesome!
Nicolas: And supposing it breaks down? I don't feel safe with all these machine-controlled things.
Redouane: Relax. It's like the Big Dipper roller coaster. Safety standards are ultra-strict.
Dita: That's all very well, but I'm starting to get hungry.
Justin: So we're in this little corner of heaven, and all you can think of is your stomach?
Dita: Yes, actually.
Everyone bursts out laughing.
Redouane: Oh, no, not now...
He brings his hands up to his temples. He is writhing in pain.
Dorothy: We're taking you back to the infirmary.
Redouane: I want to be at the campfire tonight. Oooh...
Jennifer: Only if the doctor says so.
Justin: And if not, we'll postpone it.
They make their way to the hotel.
That evening round the campfire.
Dita: Yummy, these potatoes are so good.
Dorothy: Isn't she just a delight to watch?
Justin: Why are you asking me?
Nicolas big grin: No reason.
Everyone laughs.
Justin: It's not funny. Frog is just a good friend.
Alex: Yeah, yeah.
Redouane: Just like on TV, out of the blue, there's something I've been wanting
to ask you for the longest time. How were your powers revealed?
Jennifer: You're right, you know. We've never told our stories.
Dorothy: I'll start, if you don't mind.
Redouane: We're all ears.
Justin: Hold on while I run and get some wood for the fire.
He runs off.
Nicolas: And can I have another potato?
Justin: I'm back. This Super Speed sure is handy, isn't it?
Redouane: I can't wait to hear how you reacted when you found out about your powers.
Dorothy: My parents were going through a difficult patch at the time, like most couples,
I think, and I couldn't think of anything better than to stop speaking altogether.
Redouane: What a shame with the lovely voice you have!
Dorothy: Thank you, that's sweet of you.
Dita: And so, you just stopped speaking?
Dorothy: No. Actually, I didn't. I spoke with everyone except my parents.
Nicolas: Bad little Dorothy.
Redouane: Let her finish her story!
Dorothy: Thanks, Redouane. One day, my mother was about to cross the road after
the bus had passed but she hadn't seen the car that was coming up just behind it.
I shouted 'Mum, watch out!' and I was so scared she'd be run over that my sonic boom
hit in on the 'watch out'. It set off the anti-theft alarms on all the nearby cars.
It was all hell let loose.
Justin: And how did your mum react?
Dorothy: She was in shock.
Redouane: Not surprisingly, considering the force of your vocals!
Dorothy: Could be! But what really floored her was the fact that I was speaking again.
Jennifer: So it wasn't your shout?
Dorothy: No, it wasn't! So there you are. And what about you, Justin?
Justin: It was nothing special. I've always loved to run.
Nicolas: Me too. But after girls!
Justin: We know what a Casanova you are. So, since I was like having a tornado in the house…
Redouane: You could have picked some other word!
Justin: Oops, you're right. Well then, since it was like having a hurricane in the house,
my father decided to enroll me in Athletics, and I trained every evening to qualify for
the 4 times 100 metres. But I wasn't picked, although the guy who was had done the same time as me,
and I left feeling really fed up.
Dita: That wasn't fair if you did the same time as he did.
Justin: I really wished my team would lose. They did actually lose, but that was later.
I was so disappointed that I went back to the track that night hoping my gym teacher
would see me and change her mind.
Redouane: But she wasn't there.
Justin: No, she wasn't there, and I started running to see if I could bring my time down.
And the more I ran, the more I shook, and at one point I thought 'go for bust' and I gave it
everything I had. It didn't sink in right away, but all of a sudden I was at the other end of town.
Redouane: And you were never again late for school.
Justin laughing: Yes, Sir. How about you, Jennifer?
Jennifer: I had a date with my boyfriend.
Alex: What?
Jennifer: Hold on, I was 12 at the time.
Alex: That's a relief.
Jennifer: I had a great big spot on my nose.
Redouane: A spot?
Jennifer: Yes, a stupid tiny spot now that I think of it. Nobody could see it at all
but I knew it was there, and I was sure it was enormous.
Dita: Well, it really wouldn't do, not for a date.
Jennifer: Just imagine how upset I was. I asked my mother what to do and most of all
if she had some kind of cream that would make it disappear.
Dorothy: And she gave you some cream. The spot went away but you could still see it.
Redouane laughing: The voice of experience...
Jennifer: I kept looking at myself in the mirror I was holding. My mother said,
"You'll wear it out till it won't show your reflection any more."
And I was thinking that if only I could make the spot invisible - and all of a sudden
I couldn't see my reflection in the mirror any more. I was so scared, I dropped the mirror
and it shattered. My mother came in and I told her about it.
Justin: Did she believe you?
Jennifer: We tried it a few times, and yes, I really became invisible.
Alex: And what about the date?
Jennifer: I never went. Just imagine me disappearing. But I quite like it when you get jealous.
She kisses him. Your turn now.
Redouane: Just to think it all started with a spot!
Alex: Well, there was already a 99% chance I would be a mutant.
Redouane: Really?
Alex: My father is a mutant with Super Strength, so it was only natural for my parents
to have me do some tests, which turned up positive.
Nicolas: That's really cool.
Redouane: And you, Nicolas?
Nicolas: Oh well, I had a few migraines. Not as bad as yours, though, Redouane, and I dreamed a lot.
Redouane: You had dreams?
Nicolas: Yes, it was rather strange. My sister would call me and every time
I wanted to go to a room thinking she was there, I ended up somewhere else. When I woke up,
I would be in that room and never in my bed, and since I don't wear...
Dorothy laughing: Stop right there. We don't want to know!
Nicolas: We set up cameras all over the house and discovered I had the power to teleport.
Redouane: Awesome!
Dorothy: Our powers are great to have, but outside of volleyball, couldn't we use them
for something more worthwhile?
Nicolas: Why don't you mention it to those friends of yours who've got straw
where their brains should be?
Bursts of laughter.
Redouane: Talking of the Wise, they're here, I've seen them!
Dorothy: Oh, no! Whatever will they have us do next?
Dita: And there's only me left. It all happened very naturally. It was in gym class.
I was in athletics and I was desperate to beat Victor Benavides in the high jump.
I made one amazing jump. First we thought it was just a stroke of luck but when the same
thing happened in the long jump, and when I jumped higher than the pole jumper, it was clear
that my power lay in Super Jumps.
Redouane: Strange. Both your powers and Justin's were revealed in athletics.
Dita: Oh no, don't you start! Slug is just a friend and that's all.
Everybody smiles.
Jennifer: Alex, why don't we go for a walk?
Alex: Gladly.
Justin: Meet you all tomorrow at the Wave Maker 2000!
The next day at the Wave Maker 2000.
Redouane: There aren't enough boards. Brian and his gang took nearly all of them.
And they're over there, incidentally.
Dorothy: Ignore them. It would just make their day if we went and complained.
Jennifer: Never mind. We'll share.
Justin: I'll go with Dita.
Dorothy: And me with Redouane.
Alex: And me with my sweetie.
Nicolas: I'll stay and keep watch.
Redouane: Believe me, there's no danger here!
Dita: No, you're coming with the rest of us.
Redouane: And even if something did crop up, it's only water.
Nicolas: There's still electricity involved.
Brian: So the little captain of Team 18 is scared of a little bit of water.
Nicolas: Oh, so you've had your yearly bath. Your father must be proud of you!
Brian: Very funny.
Matt: Keep to your side of the beach.
Jutta: We're riding it for the fourth time each.
Garmia: It's great!
Redouane: I thought we were allowed only two rides in a row.
Brian: But we're not just anybody, it's different for us.
Alex: Sorry, but it's our turn to go first. Get on your boards, everyone.
Jennifer: You wait your turn just like everybody else.
Redouane: Just wait and see. This is going to be awesome.
Sophie: Surely we're not going to let them get away with it?
Brian: Trust me. They're going to be sorry.
Alberto: That's more like it.
Jutta: A machine...
Redouane: Is everyone ready? Let's go!
Alex: Hold me tight.
Jennifer: You bet!
The waves are beginning to break on the shore and the surfboards race towards them.
Somewhere, not far from there, a hand is typing something into the control panel keyboard.
Dita: Wow!
Justin: Phut. I can do loads better with my Super Speed.
Dorothy: Nico, are you all right?
Nicolas: Mamma mia.
Redouane: This is our wave coming. Switch your protective bubbles on.
The wave comes at them from the right and swamps first Dorothy and Redouane,
then Jenny and Alex, Dita and Justin, and finally Nicolas.
Nicolas all shaken about in his protective bubble: That's too cool.
They are driven ashore. The bubble opens.
Redouane: Dorothy, let's go back and do it again.
Dorothy: You bet!
They go off again.
Alex: Well, then, Nico, did you enjoy that?
Nicolas: I feel a bit shaken up, but it was awesome!
Justin: Shall we do it again?
Dita: Doro and Redouane beat us to it.
Jennifer: Oh oh, is the wave supposed to be as big as that?
Alex: Definitely not!
Dita: But they've got their protective bubble.
On the surfboard.
Dorothy: Redouane, switch the bubble on.
Redouane: It isn't working.
Dorothy: Have you seen the size of that wave?
Redouane: Hold on tight. Oh, my head!
Jennifer: Nico, I can't see the bubble. Do something!
Nicolas: I can't teleport that far. I'm going for help. I did tell you these machines
that control everything were dangerous.
He teleports.
Justin: I'll take care of the control panel.
Justin runs over to the control panel.
Justin: There's no emergency stop system.
He looks everywhere for the precious switch.
Dita: The bubble's still not working. Dorothy, Redouane!
Alex: Too late.
Jennifer: No.
The wave crashes over our two friends. Justin ends up pulling all the wires out.
The control panel short-circuits. Nicolas arrives with help.
Rescuers: I can't see them.
Jennifer: There they are, over there!
Rescuers: They're all shaken up, but there's nothing seriously wrong with them.
There's no way they could have drowned.
Nicolas: That's not the point. Why didn't the bubble work?
Justin: I had to smash everything to bits to save them.
Dita: Look, they're dry!
Alex: What do you mean, they're dry?
Dorothy and Redouane arrive on their board and land on the beach. Shaken but dry.
Everyone rushes over to hug them. From a distance, a Sage is looking on.
Nicolas: Don't ever do that to me again.
Dita: I was so scared.
Jennifer: Are you two OK?
Dorothy: We're happy to be out of the water.
Redouane: Yes, I'm fine.
Rescuer: I have no idea how it could have happened.
Justin: I can't prove anything, but knowing the Tornado is around...
Alex: He wanted to teach us a lesson.
Rescuer: We'll have a doctor look at you.
Redouane: I'm used to it.
Jennifer: But what exactly happened?
Dorothy: We saw the wave coming.
Redouane: I switched the protective bubble on.
Dita: And it didn't work. We saw that bit.
Alex: And then….?
Rescuer: And while your friend here was trying to stop the machine, he must have set off
the bubble's emergency system.
Justin: But the wave had already gone by.
Dorothy: Some sort of protective screen came up.
Rescuer: But that's impossible!
Alex: Impossible or not, these are the facts. Something or someone kept them safe.
Dorothy: And how's your headache, Redouane?
Redouane: Vanished.
Rescuer: We'll conduct an investigation, but this is all very weird.
Dita: Well, what an eventful day this has been!
Justin: We'll just relax and enjoy the last days of our holiday before we start training again.
Dita and Justin accompany Dorothy and Redouane and the rescuers.
Jennifer takes Alex by the hand. Nicolas gazes out to the horizon.
Nicolas: Our powers are getting stronger, but Dorothy's Sonic Power isn't anywhere
near that kind of level yet.
Alex: And you can't teleport anyone other than yourself yet.
Jennifer: And I can't make anyone else invisible.
Nicolas: I can't make head or tail of this. Something or someone kept them from harm.
That protective screen couldn't just have appeared out of nowhere.
Jennifer: And yet we all saw it. It was really there.
Alex: Big mystery.
Dorothy: And as chance would have it, the Sages are in the neighborhood.
Nicolas: Strange coincidence.
Jennifer: Listen, brother of mine, we...
Alex: Brother of mine?
Jennifer: You know I'm like a sister to Nico.
Alex: I'm even a little bit jealous about that.
Nicolas: You've got nothing to worry about.
Jennifer: Let's drop all that. We've only got a few days' holiday left
before we go back to school.
Alex: Yuck!
Nicolas: You're right.
Jennifer drags Alex away for a walk.
Jennifer: Do you love me?
Alex: Come here and I'll prove it to you.
He kisses her. Nicolas gazes out at the sea and rubs his chin.
Nicolas: Sage, protective screen, I'm just wondering...One way or another,
I'm going to get to the bottom of this.
